«Isolani, naviganti, viaggiatori abbiamo conosciuto, nel nostro andare, le Isole di Toscana.
Molti non le hanno più lasciate, alcuni sono partiti e poi tornati, i più le portano nel cuore. Impossibile rimanere indifferenti. Sarà merito dei plutoni di granito o delle tormaline che sbocciano come fiori fragili dentro le rocce o del vulcano che l’Arcipelago costudisce mille leghe sotto il mare. Sarà la promessa di salute dell’aria cristallina, dell’acqua di sorgente, delle coltivazioni eroiche dei nuovi paladini della natura. Oppure l’incanto delle linee sensuali dei mille golfi o del riverbero della luce, che sia di sole, luna o riflesso di stelle. O le essenze che profumano in ogni stagione, le dita di scoglio e di sabbia che si tuffano nelle trasparenze iridescenti di un mare popolato da una biodiversità unica. Esempio di come la natura sia più fantasiosa della fantasia.
Una cosa è certa: la qualità della vita, per chi le abita e per chi le sceglie come destinazione, è assicurata tutto l’anno. Raccontiamo le Isole, anche quest’anno, il quarto della nostra sfida, con immagini e parole, per celebrarle, svelarle, prendersene cura, esaltarne la bellezza e l’unicità. Crediamo che sia possibile quel cambiamento, anche culturale, capace di mettere insieme le forze sane, le eccellenze dell’Arcipelago, in una comunità coesa e solidale, che abbia chiaro che l’unica strada che ha davanti è quella dello sviluppo sostenibile.
È una rotta che cerchiamo di seguire attraverso queste pagine alle quali hanno collaborato amici, partner, artisti, fotografi, autori, grafici, lettori, imprese e sostenitori. Insieme immaginiamo un futuro che faccia tesoro dell’esperienza. Abbiamo imparato, da chi è vissuto prima di noi su questi scogli tagliati dai venti, che ogni crisi è occasione di rinascita, che le ginestre e l’elicriso fioriscono ogni anno.»

«The Tuscan Islands have been visited by islanders, navigators, travelers.
Some have never left, some have departed and then returned, many carry them in their hearts. It is impossible to remain indifferent. It might be due to the granite plutons or to the tourmaline that blossom like fragile flowers in the rocks or due to the volcano that the Archipelago is guarding a thousand leagues under the sea. It could be the promise of health in the pure clear air, the water from the spring, the heroic cultivations of the new defenders of nature. Or it may be the charm of the sensual lines of the thousand gulfs or the reflection of the light whether it be sun, moon or stars. Or the essences that perfume in every season the outcrops of rock and sand, that dive into the crystal clear sea with its unique biodiversity. An example of how nature is more creative than fantasy.
One thing is sure: the quality of life, both for those who live here and those who chose it as a destination, is guaranteed all the year round. We are recounting the Islands again this year, the fourth of our challenge, with images and words, to celebrate them, to reveal them, take care of them and exalt their beauty and originality. We believe that it is possible to make that change, a cultural one too, to put healthy energy together, the delights of the Archipelago, in a united, sound community that clearly believes that the only way forward is that of sustainable development.
This is the route that we want to follow through these pages where friends, partners, artists, photographers, authors, designers, readers, businesses and supporters have collaborated. Together we hope for a future that can build on the experience. We have learned, from those who lived before us on these rocks cut by the wind, that every crisis is an opportunity to regenerate, that the gorse and the helichrysum bloom every year.
To be born is not enough.»
